Nandi – Shiva’s bull represents strength, faith, and consistency in belief. Nandi signifies single-minded devotion and the peaceful strength of faith. Nandi represents Satsanga (Hindi – सत्संग, English – Meditation). Nandi is the attendant or doorkeeper of lord Siva. He is the Vahana (Hindi – वाहन, English – Vehicle) of Lord Siva. The mythological significance of Nandi under Indian context cannot be underestimated any day. Nandi is a very prominent character of Shiva – Puran. A very charming tradition that when people go to a temple, they lean over and whisper what they want in Nandi’s ear because he is always looking at Shiva and will make sure that Shiva hears your prayer at the most opportune time. Under another belief people also try to view the Shiva linga through the horns of Nandi, thereby gaining the perfect perspective of the cosmic lord.

This articraft is made of Bell Metal mixed with Brass and crafted as Dhokra. The impression and finish is excellent and to make it more beautiful the artisan has used vibrant colors appropriately. The body and forehead cover cloth for Nandi has been painted with charming red color and underneath you can see the dhokra network. Jewelries and bells have been crafted with perfection. The golden touch added to them makes them stand out significantly.  Truly a mythlogically iconic symbol of worship, devotion and faith, only for you by our experts.

Dhokra art is one of the earliest known methods of non-ferrous metal casting known to human civilization. This sort of metal casting has been used in India for over 4,000 years and is still being used.  Currently this craft form is prevailing mostly in to the States of Pashim Banga, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand of India. On a relatively unknown basis this craft form is also prevailing in the southern states of India and some villages of Himanchal Pradesh.  A very fine example of this very traditional & ancient art is the dancing girl of mohenjo-daro.

Dhokra art is totally handmade and completely unique. It is made of Brass as base metal used with bell metal and other alloys. The special quality of these handicrafts is that it does not have any joints. It comes in one piece as a whole. Since each and every piece of this artifact is being casted using a new handmade mold, hence each and every piece differs from each other.  They will just not resemble each other completely. Here lies the exclusiveness of dhokra craft.
