State of Uttarakhand, India

Uttarakhand formerly Uttaranchal, is a state in the northern part of India. It is often referred to as the "Land of the Gods" due to the many holy Hindu temples and pilgrimage centres found throughout the state. Its the eighteenth largest state of India by size and nineteenth most populous state.

Wood carving is the most famous craft of Uttarakhand. Its said that every house in Kumaon and Garhwal region is having carved wooden entrance door. Uttarakhand is also famous for making miniature and replica instruments like compass and other nautical instruments. Grass basket making is another craft form which is practiced widely in the hilly state of uttarakhand. Handloom work is very prominent in these hilly areas and they contract color and design pattern produced here are very different from the other states.
