Jewellery

Jewellery or jewelry is small decorative items worn for personal adornment, such as brooches, rings, pendants, necklaces, earrings, and bangles & bracelets etc etc. Jewellery as an ornament is mostly attached to the body or the clothes, and the term is restricted to durable ornaments, excluding flowers. The word Jewellery has originally been derived from the word "Jewel", which otherwise means Gemstones. Historically, the uses of Jewellery can be traced from Indus Vally Civilisation where remains of metal jewelleries were found. India has the longest continuous legacy of jewellery making anywhere since Ramayana and Mahabharata times. Because India had abundant amount of jewellery resources, it prospered financially through export and exchange with other countries. While Western traditions were heavily influenced by waxing and waning empires, India enjoyed a continuous development of art forms for some 5,000 years.
